Perspective

Sometimes we all need a shift in perspective... life gets hectic; changes occur; new questions get asked and answered. At those moments, it seems the only thing you can do is roll with the punches, slow yourself down as much as possible, and seek reflection and creativity.

The last week has been one of those weeks for me. I took advantage of the long holiday weekend, last weekend, and took a road trip with my best friend. Our destination: Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Our mission: reflection, exploration, friendship, & creativity.

Here are a few shots from the trip:

Think Big, © Christy Marie Photographie 2008

I'm not sure if anyone else has been following the detainment and subsequent release of American photojournalist, James Karl Buck, and his Egyptian translator, Mohammed Maree, a 23-year old Veterinary student, in Egypt this year. I've been following it for months now on the independent and then mainstream news. Read about it here. It's an important reminder to all... freedom of the press is not guaranteed. It needs to be fought for and protected.

I've been contemplating a photography project lately. It sometimes seems it takes a lot of little questions to add up to a big one. I've landed on my big question, and I've decided to examine and document that question in a photo essay. I'll have more information on that soon, and will let you know when you can follow my progresshere. But, for now, I leave you with this:

How do you define bravery?

More from the Poconos

Here are a couple more shots I've fallen in love with from last week's photo shoot in the Poconos. All five of the children were a pleasure to shoot, and I'm enjoying editing the shots.

Is there anything better than hanging with kids on the beach during the summer? They seem to be infused with that special summertime energy. Their imaginations soar. They play. It's such a joy to watch; I'm thrilled I could tag along.

NOTE: No uncles were hurt in the capturing of the above image. But I think it is safe to say the caped crusader triumphed over evil. ;)

The F. Family

Earlier in the week I drove up to the Poconos to photograph the F. family on their first full-family vacation: three generations---5 children ranging from 10 months to 5 years and 7 adults.

It was an absolute pleasure, and I want to thank them for inviting me to join their holiday and for their patience as I attempted to document their day. I had a wonderful time and was honored to be included.

The next week is a busy one. I have a day long family portrait shoot in the Poconos this Wednesday that I'm really looking forward to. Should be a fantastic and fun day!

And, Monday, I will be the photographer for the 3rd Annual Delaware Golf Outing for Alzheimer’s at Delaware National Country Club. I'm pleased the Alzheimer’s Association called me, and I'm thrilled that I can support this fantastic cause with this in-kind donation. They are still registering golfers. So be sure to sign up if you are in the area. Contact Carolyn Moloney at 302.633.4420 for more information.
